Spiritual guidance is a practice that comes out of many centuries of christian tradition, often called spiritual direction. It began with ordained religious, but over the years has extended to lay people as well.
What a gift to be in a time and place where we recognize the spirituality of every person and humanity as a whole!
If we were to remove religious language, I would say the practice of spiritual guidance is making space to listen to that small voice within, listening to what is important to you and then living intentionally toward that inner wisdom or feeling you have noticed.
Really making the space to pay attention, we uncover our inner presence. Once we are aware of that inner place, we begin to recognize and embrace our sacredness. This unfolding process allows us to continue to learn about our drives and curiosities. Over time we are able to gain awareness of how we can grow in an intentional way. As we practice, we come to feel invited into more of who we are in ourselves, in our relationships and in our environment.
Practicing spiritual guidance is never a ‘should’, but a benefit that is open to anyone who seeks it.
Some thoughts urging you to notice your inner presence/Holy Spirit could be:
Who am I? What am I doing here? Something is missing in my life. What can I do? Why do I feel so scattered? From where do I draw my purpose?
